David Cunningham stopped actively practicing at what was then Beresh Cunningham in 2012.
He is a continuing a valued source of legal information and practical knowledge for all the lawyers at the firm. He remains a part of our firm as a valued consultant. Dave has a huge amount of knowledge from his decades of experience in the Trial and Appeal Courts; particularly in the area of impaired driving.
Dave started his legal career as a articling student to Brian Beresh in 1984. Back then our offices were in the Revlon Building. David started his career working out of the firm’s library on a fold-down desk.
A huge part of Beresh Aloneissi O’Neill ‘s success is owed to the hard work and excellent court room ability of David Cunningham. Dave’s work ethic and knowledge of the law both inspired and terrified many a young lawyer and articling student. His day to day presence is greatly missed.
Dave practiced exclusively in the area of criminal defence. He was regarded as one of the best lawyers in Canada defending persons charged with impaired driving. He handled hundreds of impaired trials and his tenacious advocacy created a Canada-wide reputation. In addition to impaired driving cases, Dave handled all manner of criminal defence work. Of significant note in his career was the successful defence of a parent falsely accused in the death of their child. He truly made a difference for all his clients. The defence bar in Alberta ismuch diminished without him.
Dave continues to keep in touch and consult with all our lawyers when needed. He remains a good friend to senior lawyers at Beresh Aloneissi O’Neill. The Saskatchewan Rough Rider fans at the office continue to enjoy betting against his beloved Eskimo’s.
Dave and his wife are greatly enjoying traveling the globe and literally sailing the seven seas.
