Criminal Defence Attorney: Edward Sacher, J.D.

Edward Sacher joined Liberty Law LLP as an associate criminal defence attorney in early September 2023.

Prior to becoming a criminal defence attorney, Edward was an emergency medical evacuation pilot in northern Alberta, where he primarily served the communities of High Level, Fort Vermilion, and the Little Red River Cree Nation.

It was also at this time that Edward worked a part-time job as a cell guard for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which made him greatly interested in the study of criminal law, as well as the operation and overall functioning of the criminal justice system.

Edward attended the University of Saskatchewan College of Arts and Science with an intention to major in Political Science, however he only completed two years of studies after receiving early acceptance into the University of Saskatchewan College of Law due to high academic achievement.

During his legal studies, Edward primarily focused on subjects relating to criminal law such as Advanced Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Sexual Assault, Youth Criminal Justice, and Sentencing. Edward was also the recipient of the Morris and Jacqui Shumiatcher Scholarship in Law.

Edward first articled and began practicing as a criminal defence attorney in Regina, Saskatchewan. As a public defender, Edward gained invaluable trial litigation experience, in addition to handling a vast amount of complicated and urgent criminal matters on a continual basis.

Edward was also part of a criminal defence team that successfully appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada in November 2022, whereby his client’s murder conviction was set aside, and a new trial was ordered.

To date, Edward, as a criminal defence attorney, has successfully represented clients at the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Justice, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.

As a criminal defence attorney  with a strong passion for advocating for justice on behalf of his clients, Edward realizes that no matter how minor or severe the allegations, being charged with a criminal offence is one of the most difficult things an individual may have to deal with in their lifetime, and thus they should not only be entitled to a strong defence, but also to a lawyer who will actively pay attention to their overall needs and interests.

What are the potential consequences of a criminal conviction?
